Sundays of Sound
Fall 2026

Trio Lume
October 25, 2:00pm
Violinist Viola You, cellist Raymond Newell, and pianist Wakana Hamada open with two pillars of the piano-trio repertoire: Beethoven’s Piano Trio in E-flat major and Smetana’s Piano Trio in G minor. The LA-based artists weave Beethoven’s early triumph of the genre into Smetana’s expansive romanticism.

Anthony Cardella
November 8, 2:00pm
Pianist and musicologist Anthony Cardella returns from a European tour with a herculean program of ballades. In this distinctive recital, Cardella pairs each of Frédéric Chopin’s four Ballades with a twentieth- or twenty-first-century work
that reimagines the ballade tradition through a modern musical voice. Juxtaposing masterpieces by Chopin with works by Claude Debussy, Samuel Barber, Sergei Bortkiewicz, and Judd Greenstein, the program traces
nearly two centuries of musical storytelling, revealing how one of the Romantic era’s most iconic
forms continues to inspire composers.
Abriana Church
December 13, 2:00pm
Prodigious pianist Abriana Church traces a path from Bach’s radiant Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring through Mendelssohn’s intricate Prelude and Fugue and sparkling Spinning Song, to Scriabin’s dreamlike Second Sonata, Rachmaninoff’s fragrant Lilacs, and Chopin’s poetic Nocturne op. 27 no. 2. Holiday works decorate the musical journey with guest flutist Lauren Hoffman.
